Velocix quadruples CDN stream density, lowering IP video scale-out costs for wireline and 5G wireless delivery

Velocix has announced new ultra-high density CDN edge caching software that delivers up to four times the streaming output of previous server generations.

The company’s latest software release has been optimised to run on commercial-off-the-shelf reference platforms featuring AMD chips and solid state NVMe drives, substantially reducing the amount of hardware required to scale-out IPTV and over-the-top (OTT) video services delivered to consumers over wireline and 5G wireless networks.

“With traditional video subscribers increasingly transitioning to new multi-screen IP video services, network operators are facing complex scaling challenges that will continue to intensify as stream demand and mobile viewership over 5G networks flourishes,” said Craig Sinasac, VP Development and Technology at Velocix. “Our software is carefully tuned to supercharge the capabilities of the foundational hardware platform to maximise stream density and CDN efficiency, resulting in a richer return on investment for our customers.”

Velocix has already received a large order for the new CDN software from a top tier multiple systems operator (MSO) that is significantly expanding its IP streaming services in multiple countries this year. Many of the largest and most successful service providers throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia, including Vodafone, Liberty Global, Telefonica and T-Mobile, use Velocix technology to power their premium IP video service offerings.

Velocix sets a Cloud DVR fault-tolerance benchmark with new carrier-grade, geo-redundancy features

Latest Origin release assures business continuity for live and time-shifted video.

Velocix today announced it has released new carrier-grade, geo-redundancy features for its Origin server software to boost the fault tolerance and reliability of Cloud DVR, live, and on-demand video streaming services.

The company’s Origin geo-redundancy features ensure full operational capacity is maintained in the event of a catastrophic network failure, power outage, or other fault condition that might otherwise interrupt consumer facing video services or negatively impact revenue generation.

Craig Sinasac, Vice President Development and Technology at Velocix, said: “We’ve seen a lot of interest from service providers, especially telcos, in strengthening their disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Improving the robustness of our origin server’s geo-redundancy capabilities ensures that time critical activities, like live content acquisition and delivery, remain unaffected by a major outage in a specific geographical area. With our latest release, we have set a new benchmark for resiliency and fault tolerance, delivering a solution that meets our customers’ stringent standards.”

In addition to geo-redundancy, Velocix’s origin server release introduces flexibility and scalability enhancements, as well as support for high dynamic range (HDR10), 4K/UHD, and Dolby Atmos content. The latest origin server release, version 6.0, is available now.

Velocix’s range of carrier-grade content delivery solutions enable operators to scale-out capacity and boost the monetisation of premium, multi-screen video applications. More information about the company’s products is available at www.velocix.com.

Velocix Highlights Programmatic Video Advertising, Ultra-Low Latency Live Streaming, and Hybrid-Cloud at IBC 2019

Velocix announces IBC 2019 trade show preview:

Velocix, the world’s leading provider of content delivery, origin and storage, and stream personalisation software, today announced it will highlight programmatic video advertising, ultra-low latency live streaming, and hybrid-cloud video architectures at IBC 2019 (13 – 17 September 2019, stand 5.C28).

“At the IBC show this year, Velocix will be discussing how service providers can maximise the value they generate from every video stream, by better monetising viewership, delivering a higher quality consumer experience, and building a more efficient video network,” said Jim Brickmeier, CMO at Velocix. “With our latest technology, we are helping our customers boost the business case for video by optimising the performance of the end-to-end content delivery network.”

Highlighted Topics:

    • Programmatic Video Advertising

Velocix’s CDN and stream personalisation platform interfaces with online ad exchanges to enable the programmatic selling and placement of ads into individual video streams.  Service providers can target specific audience profiles more precisely, enabling 50% higher ad revenues to be generated from the same ad avail inventory.

    • Ultra-Low Latency

The company’s ultra-low latency (ULL) video technology reduces the delay associated with delivering live adaptive bit rate (ABR) content to broadcast TV levels or better, ensuring the best quality of experience for live sporting events and news programming.

    • Hybrid-Cloud Video Architectures

Velocix’s new content delivery network architectures lower scale-out costs by using cloud-hosted resources to support temporary traffic spikes associated with live events.  Hybrid-cloud designs improve efficiency, accelerate time-to-market, and provide flexibility by presenting an alternative to dedicated infrastructure.

Velocix’s carrier-grade content delivery solutions are designed for live, on-demand, time-shifted video and cloud DVR applications, enabling operators to scale-out premium multi-screen video applications with confidence.
